Deputy Sheriff Richard "Rick" Daly

Deputy Sheriff Richard "Rick" Daly

1955 – 2011

"Never was Rick without a smile.  He just seemed to be happy to live life. It’s just a shame that those who love life and are willing to put their lives on the line for others are the ones who have to suffer this sort of fate.” - Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough

Daly was a deputy with the Clayton County Sheriff's Office.  He was shot and killed on July 20, 2011 while conducting a traffic stop involving an armed robbery suspect who had been identified by the Sheriff's fugitive squad.  As Deputy Daly approached the 17-year-old suspect's car, the suspect opened fire, striking him in the abdomen below his ballistic vest.  The suspect fled the scene, sparking a massive manhunt involving law enforcement officers from several dozen local, state, and federal agencis.  He was apprehended several hours later.

Deputy Daly will be remembered as a dedicated law enforcement officer and family man who served his community both on the job and off.  He leaves behind a large family, including his wife, Cheryl, two grown children, Toby & Amber and their spouses, his mother, Joyce, and four grandchildren.
